King Alfonso VII was involved in many conflicts against the Almohades and Andalusians, leading up to the significant battles of Alarcos and the larger, Las Navas de Tolosa.
Álvaro Nuñez de Lara – the “Alferez”, or standard bearer, for King Alfonso VIII, carrying the standard of Castile.
